As millions of Americans head to the polls for the midterm elections, White House chief Donald Trump made a surprising announcement that Washington will cut off its $4 billion annual military aid to its closest ally, Israel, by the end of this year.

Speaking in a telephone interview with Fox News on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Mr. Trump stated that he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had already agreed on this matter several months ago.

According to Mr. Trump’s clarification on Fox & Friends: "We give them more than anyone else, and they don't need it anymore. Besides, we've been doing this for many years—even I personally have done it—but Israel is a rapidly growing nation, so they no longer need this aid."

However, Mr. Trump asserted that Washington would still step in to assist if Jerusalem ever needed help.

Regarding the rationale behind the decision, Mr. Trump revealed that it was a political move to prevent Democrats and critics of U.S. foreign policy from continuing to use the issue to attack his administration.

In particular, Mr. Trump pointed directly at Abdul El-Sayed—an outspoken critic of Israel currently running for a U.S. Senate seat in Michigan—who has been using the matter to attack the Republican Party.
